An attack that caused death and injuries took place this evening in Galkayo. Puntland police raided Yasin Abdisamad Peace Park on the outskirts of Galkayo, where he was having iftar with Somali Foreign Minister Abdisaad Muse Ali and his children on holiday in Galkayo.
The foreign minister survived the attack, but Yassin Abdisamad, who is still in the operating room with gunshot wounds, was critically injured. The deputy police chief of Mudug region was wounded in the attack, and a member of the Puntland security forces who was the minister's bodyguard was also killed.
The attack comes as Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole is in Mogadishu as a candidate for the presidency of Somalia.
Five days ago, peace activist Yassin Abdisamad attended a meeting, criticizing President Deni and asking him if he wanted Mogadishu to remain under Puntland.
