MOGADISHU, SOMALIA - A car bomb has exploded at a restaurant in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, killing at least two people, witnesses and officials said on Sunday.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a restaurant where Somali lawmakers were having breakfast.
The restaurant was also attended by Somali Police Force Commander General Abdi Hassan Hijar, but Somali government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalim confirmed the commander was safe.
"The police chief General Xijaar I spoke to assured me he was safe. He was at the scene of the blast. The lawmakers are safe, ”said Maalimuu.
Somali government media reported casualties, but did not say how many.
Ambulance services reported six deaths, and seven injuries.
Among the wounded was Abdiaziz Liban Shidane, the district police chief.
